RABBIT POISONS - A GUIDE TO DANGEROUS PLANTS

Feeding plants to your rabbits and guinea pigs adds variety and more interest to their diets.  These plants provide essential nutrients such as fibre, protein, vitmains and oter substances that are essential to the animal's health.

However, SOME PLANTS CAN BE VERY HARMFUL to small animals if eaten.

Side effects can include skin irritation, gut upset, salivation, heart irregularities, and potentially death.

Below are some commonly encountered dangerous plants but for a more comprehensive list please visit www.smallanimaladvice.com

Deadly nightshade                   Lobelia

Elder                                       Lupin

Foxglove                                  Privet

Iris                                          Rhododendron

Ivy                                          Woody nightshade

Lily of the Valley                       Yew

If you are in any doubt do not feed the plant to your pet.

If your rabbit or guinea pig becomes ill after being in the garden or after being fed plants, and you suspect a poisoning, please phone the vet practice immediately.
