DOG OWNERS : PLEASE READ

LUNGWORM  ALREADY!

What is it?

The lungworm, Angiostrongylus vasorum, is a parasite that infects dogs. The adult lungworm lives in the heart and major blood vessels supplying the lungs. Left untreated, the infection can be fatal.

Last year's wet, mild weather was perfect for slugs and snails to thrive, and because they spread lungworm in dogs, we knew we would see a lot of cases this year. We have already seen a confirmed case, far earlier than we were expecting.

Lungworm is a horrible infection, fatal if not treated quickly. It's caused by swallowing slugs or snails, particularly the little slugs which get stuck on a dog's hair and swallowed when the dog grooms itself. As an owner, you don't know it's happening.

What are the signs my dog has lungworm?

A dog with lungworm will be obviously off colour, quiet, uncomfortable, dull, probably breathing fast, possibly with a light cough, possibly bleeding (from a cut, maybe into the urine or the eyes). The symptoms are varied and scary.

If you are suspicious or worried, please let us know RIGHT AWAY!

Prevention and Treatment

There is a product we use which is licensed to treat and PREVENT lungworm in dogs. It is called PRINOVOX, and it is a dropper which goes on the skin on the back of the neck.

PLEASE USE IT!

It is applied once a month, every month.

It is only available from vets, and the cost is (depending on the size of your dog) from £7.82 to £11.63.

We can supply it in single dose or packs of four. Your CVC CLUBCARD discount (from 5% to 25%) will come off the cost, and if you want, we will apply it for you every month with no charge for doing it.

We know we will see a lot of cases this year, but we don't want to see any!

Please talk to us and let us help you and your dog keep this horrible parasite at bay as much as we can.
