Dental Homecare Clinic

Dental care is every bit as important for our pets as it is for us humans, and here at Culloden Veterinary Clinic we would like to help avoid your pet becoming 'down in the mouth'.

Above we have an example of healthy teeth and unhealthy teeth.

Signs of a dental problem:

Cats: Have a high risk of getting a variety of dental problems, including -

  • Gum (peridontal) disease.
  • Feline resorptive lesions (tooth resorption)
  • Fractured teeth

Dogs: 4 out of 5 dogs over the age of three experiance gum disease. Other tooth problems to look out for include -

  • Retained deciduous teeth
  • Malocclusions
  • Peridontal disease

Signs to look out for are;

  • Bad breath
  • Red and bleeding gums
  • Loose teeth
  • Behavioural changes
  • The bite - alignment of the teeth either 'overshot' or 'undershot'.

If left untreated your pet can experience pain and infection, resulting in tooth loss.

Aftercare and Brushing your dog / cats teeth!

This is a great way for keeping your pets teeth and gums in tip top condition. Cats may only tolerate it for a little bit at a time but by introducing the toothbrush gradually to your pet will teach them to enjoy the experience.

Other methods of keeping your pets mouths in a healther condition include specifically designed treats, therapeutic agents and regular oral check ups by our nurses.
